PROTECT OUR PLAYGROUND

THE MOUNTAIN MAKES THE RACE. HELP US PROTECT IT.

The mountains are more than the backdrop for the Stifel Birds of Prey. They’re what makes this world-class event possible.

At the Vail Valley Foundation, we recognize the responsibility that comes with producing events in the places we care so much about.
Hosting a World Cup ski race requires considerable resources, and we’re mindful of the environmental impact that comes with an event of this scale.

Through our Protect Our Playground initiative, we’re working alongside our partners to make responsible choices, focus on the areas where we can have the greatest impact and continue improving how we operate.

Sustainability is part of how we plan and produce the Stifel Birds of Prey. From waste management to transportation and event materials, we focus on practical improvements that support more responsible event operations.
Waste Reduction & Recycling
With the support of Walking Mountains and our Green Team volunteers, we’ve established a strong recycling and composting program at the Race Finish Area and in Beaver Creek Village. Onsite waste sorting and education help keep recyclable and compostable materials out of the landfill.
Responsible Event Practices
We’re working to reduce single-use products, reuse event signage and materials, encourage reusable and compostable service ware, and limit unnecessary packaging.
Transportation
We encourage spectators, staff and event partners to use public transportation, carpooling and event shuttles to help reduce vehicle trips to and from the event.
Partner Collaboration
We work with vendors, sponsors and local organizations to incorporate sustainability into event planning, share best practices and identify opportunities for improvement.

Protecting our playground takes all of us. Whether you’re cheering from the Race Finish Area or enjoying Beaver Creek Village, there are simple ways to make a difference.
  • Use public transportation, event shuttles or carpool whenever possible.
  • Properly sort waste at designated recycling and composting stations.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle or coffee mug.
  • Respect the mountain environment and pick up after yourself.
  • Join the Green Team and help support our sustainability efforts.

There’s always more we can do. We’ll continue building on what’s working, learning from our experiences and finding practical ways to improve.
In spring 2027, we’ll return to the Race Finish Area for our annual spring cleanup, bringing together staff, volunteers and partners to remove trash and debris after the snow melts.
