SKI TUNES & STORAGE

Once you get on course you will understand why a lethally sharp tune on your skis is so important. The expectation is that you will show up with your skis course ready. As a convenience for all on course volunteers, free ski storage is provided at the Bird Bay.

During the event, two free ski tunes will be available to all Talon Crew volunteers at Beaver Creek Sports. They are conveniently located at the base of the escalators on the village level of Beaver Creek Village. You get two free tunes during the event by showing your credential. Generally, they are open early to accommodate our schedule and to have you skis ready the next morning. Please confirm pick up times with the shop attendant. Generally, you should be able to just stop by on the way up to the lift and pick them up.

Again, the expectation is that you arrive on course with your skis already tuned and ready to go. If you’ve done course work early season before, then you know that there can be “bony spots” that are hard of your skis, a.k.a., core shots. Thanks to Talon Crew volunteer Chip Ford. He will have his repair shop set up in the Bird Cage at the top of Chair 9. This is for emergency repairs and touch ups only, not full tunes.

As a convenience for all on course volunteers, free ski storage is provided at the Bird Bay. This is the ski valet in the brown building to the right of Lift 6 Centennial Express. This is a self service ski storage and is open from 6:00am to 5:00pm. The door will be locked at night and the open door will be attended during the day. Due to limited space, ski storage is only for volunteers working the next day. Please be considerate of others and do not leave your skis there if it’s going to be a few days before your are back.

All skis must be removed by the end of the day on the last Sunday of the event (Sun, Dec. 3, 2023).

Each year we usually have a few “ski swaps” where someone reports their skis missing but it turns out that someone else grabbed the wrong skis. It might be to your benefit to make sure you name is on your skis. Duct tape and a sharpie are useful for this chore.
